| Liberi Pacifer is Latin and means "bringing children peace“. We are a non-profit, politically neutral association with the aim of helping children cope with the dire and oftentimes life threatening situation in crisis regions affected by war or natural disasters. Our main task is to provide injured and ill children with medical and psychotrauma- tological care irrespective of their nationality and religious belief. In doing so we ultimately hope to be able to give children back a sense of security and joy of life and ultimately promote, albeit in a modest way, peace around the world since we are convinced that insufficiently treated damage to people’s minds and bodies by war will only perpetuate conflict. Moreover, we intend to organize and stage public events aimed at promoting agreement between nations as well as optimism and constructive life perspectives for all. Further steps in raising peoples risk awareness will include educational local events, books and films. Liberi Pacifer is made up of an interdisciplinary group of individuals of different academic backgrounds i.e. medicine, psychotrauma- tology,arts and art therapy, communication, architecture, business- administration, sociology and laws. In the years to come we intend to send interdisciplinary teams of health professionals to Lebanon in order to cooperate with local colleagues. By including Lebanese professionals in the helping process we will ensure long term medical and psychological treatment capacities independent from foreign assistance thereby helping local medical institutions specializing in the treatment of traumatized children move toward self-reliance. |
